Saturday Morning Shenanigans

Saturday Morning Shenanigans: Doors, Ignitions, and Hot Tubs

G’day everyone! It’s a crisp Saturday morning, around 3°C. A bit nippy, but not too bad—perfect weather to kick off the day. The sun’s shining, and I’m off to check out a sliding door that needs converting to a digital, self-locking system.

This job is a bit special as the customer has an autistic child. We need to make sure he can get in from the outside when it suits him since he likes to go for bike rides during the day. But come night-time, we’ve got to ensure he can’t sneak out to the hot tub on the deck. The last thing we need is a midnight hot tub escapade!

The door in question is a domestic double-glazed sliding door with a slightly wider frame—about a 40mm cavity. I’ll keep the customer updated on our progress and ensure we get the job done right.

Next on the list is a 2006 Mazda 3 with an ignition that’s seen better days. Someone’s had a go at fixing it before and managed to break the face cap off. Time to find a replacement ignition barrel and get this car back on the road.

I’m on call this afternoon. Not my favourite gig after 37 years in the trade, but it pays the bills. With a few folks locked out of their homes, I’ve got plenty to keep me busy.

Spent some time trying to get the new version of my LARA app to a stage where Google will hopefully finally approve the updates and allow it on the Play Store. Fingers crossed!

That’s all for now—nothing too dramatic to report, just another day in the life of a locksmith!
